Edgar Hughes

Edgar E. "Gene" Hughes, 85, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 at his home. Gene was born in Model (Stewart County) Tennessee on February 18, 1927 to the late J.Y. and Rena (Chadwick) Hughes. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in WWII. Gene worked 55 years as a union carpenter (Local 90) and retired in 1989. He was a member of the VFW Post 265. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on his cattle farm. Gene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geneva (Morris) Hughes of Evansville, IN, children, Ronald David (Sarah) Hughes of Evansville, IN, Debbie (Ken) Whiteside of Hopkinsville, KY, and Randy (Tonya) Hughes M.D. of Fort Wayne, IN; sisters, Dorothy (Billy) Winfield of Evansville, IN and Floy (Seaby) Ann Bess of Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Jon Hughes, Shelley Brown, Vanessa Cornwell, Aaron Whiteside, Alex Hughes and Abigail Hughes; great-grandchildren, Jack, Bella and Bailey Hughes, Heidi Brown, Sophia and Logan Cornwell, Ethan, Addison and Kyliana Whiteside, and many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Ovena Hargrove and brothers, Frank, John and Gillis Hughes. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue Evansville, Indiana 47711. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
