Elfriede Schmied

Elfriede Elizabeth Schmied, 92, passed away July 29, 2018. She was born November 28, 1925, in Pochmuhl, Czechoslovakia to the late Wilhelm and Anna Korsischke.
Elfriede and her family moved to the United States from Germany in 1952 and made Chicago their home. She moved to North Carolina in 1990, and then Evansville in 1999 to be closer to her son, Norbert. Elfriede worked as a chef in two German restaurants in Chicago and then began working for Ludlow as a finisher until they closed. After that she became an assembler at Parker Hannafin. Elfriede enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, flowers and herbs, reading, and she loved animals. Elfriede would always cook with what she grew. She loved people and everyone loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Norbert Schmied, parents; brother, Max Korsischke; sister, Steffi Heide; and nephew, Norbert Heide.
Elfriede is survived by her son, Norbert Schmied, of Evansville; granddaughters, Heidi Givens (Greg), of Newburgh, Erika Bushert (Stephen), of Ellettsville, IN; great grandchildren, Gregory, Jacob, and Emeline Givens, Benjamin and Amelia Bushert; and nephew, Markus Heide, of Germany.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, officiated by Celebrant Carrie Hatchett. Friends may visit from 2:00 to 3:00 on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
