Obituary of Joyce Ann Hillenbrand
Joyce Ann Hillenbrand passed away on July 29, 2020. Joyce was born May 4, 1944 in Evansville, Indiana, the third of four daughters to parents Esther and Guy Maurer. Joyce attended Millersburg School and Lockyear Business College. She worked as office manager for doctors Sterne, Radcliffe and Leibundguth and also held positions at Colonial Garden Center where her love of plants and crafts truly flourished. She was active in the Germania Maennerchor Ladies Auxiliary, serving as President several times. Her biggest achievement and greatest love was her family. She married Thomas Hillenbrand on September 26, 1964 and together had two sons, Thomas and Jason. She was a loving mother and proud grandma who would do anything for her four grandkids. Joyce loved to make crafts and sell items at local craft fairs. She was a fantastic cook and baker, enjoying German recipes and trying new things. Joyce loved to travel and enjoyed trips with her sister Judy and brother-in-law Reggie to many of his Marine Corps reunions. Her attention to detail was prominent in her art, penmanship, kindness with strangers, and ability to care for others. To share in Joyce’s unique sense of humor was to be a part of something special. If you knew her, you loved her. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jason; her husband, Tom; niece Regina Champlain; sister, Julia (Judy) Champlain; brother-in-laws, Reginald Champlain and Paul Kroeger; nephew, John Kroeger; nephew-in-law, Jeff Scott, and her parents. Joyce is survived by two sisters, Guylene Maurer and Dorothy Kroeger; as well as her son, Thomas Hillenbrand and his wife Libby, their children Tommy and Tally; daughter-in-law, Shawn, and grandchildren Devin and Reginald; and many nieces and nephews. The love and joy these family members brought to Joyce’s world showed in everything she did. On Friday, August 7th, friends may pay respects during visitation 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, officiated by Fr. Ted Tempel, followed by burial at Alexander Memorial Park. Please wear a face covering and keep 6 feet distance from others. Joyce would want everyone to stay healthy. We understand some friends may not be comfortable attending. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Southern Indiana Honor Flight or the Wes Atterbury Foundation. Condolences may be offered at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.
