Obituary of Lenora Isabell Connor
Lenora Isabell (Hurt) Conner, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at her home. She was born February 6, 1922 in Pike County, IN to the late Charles and Rhoda (McGrew) Hurt. Isabell attended the first two grades of school in a one room school house in Pike County. Later the family moved to Oakland City where she attended third through sixth grade school. She graduated from Spurgeon High School in 1938. Isabell married her high school sweetheart, Bybee Connor in March 24, 1940. They moved to Evansville in 1944 and started attending Forest Hills Wesleyan Church. Isabell taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at the church and eventually became first Primary Superintendent when the Sunday school was departmentalized. She worked in downtown stores, Woolworth and Smith & Butterfield. After seeing her son, Mike through grade school, Isabell went back to work and became an LPN. She worked at Deaconess Hospital until her retirement in 1984. After retirement, Isabell and Bybee went to Florida for the winter months until Bybee’s health began to fail. While in Florida, she took training to become a Hospice Volunteer at Lake Sumter County Hospice Home. Isabell liked to cook, try new dishes, had a large collection of cook books, and making albums with favorite pictures. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband of 63 years, Bybee Connor. Isabell is survived by her son, Michael Connor (Evangeline) of Waverly, TN; 2 grandchildren, Kevin Connor of Waverly, TN, and Melinda Schoessler (Shayne) of New Johnsonville, TN; 6 great-grandchildren, Sharna, Rachael, Rebecca Connor, Michael, Angie, and Alexandria Schoessler; brother-n-law, George Connor (Doris) of Dexter, MI; sister-n-laws, Pauline Rushton of Vincennes, IN, Rachel Connor of Colorado, Ida McCarthy of Latham, IL, and Ruth Connor of Edina, MN; special friend and primary caregiver, Diane McConnell; other caregivers, Jerry and Vera Cleek, Roberta, Mary, Nancy, Nancy H, Sheri, Stella, Julie, Renae; and Southern Care, Mia, Rita, and Brandi; and her dog, Coco. Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Michael Stoelting, with burial at Alexander Memorial Park.
