Obituary of Mae Blanche (Carlisle) Dean
Mae Blanche (Carlisle) Dean passed away on January 18, 2014. She was born in New Albany, IN in 1919 to Coy Winfield Carlisle and Vera (Shutt) Carlisle. Mae lived most of her childhood in Sacramento, KY where she attended grammar school. In high school, she attended Mount St. Joseph Catholic Academy in Daviess County, KY from which she graduated in 1936. It was there that she became accomplished at the piano and violin, and she also excelled in her other subjects. Upon graduation from Mount St. Joseph Academy, Mae Blanche entered Western Kentucky University where she trained to be an elementary school teacher. After graduation, she taught school for several years at Glenville and Island schools in McLean County, KY before moving to Evansville, where she entered the war industry. She worked at Republic Aviation, which produced P-47 Thunderbolt fighter planes. At the conclusion of the war Mae began work at Mead Johnson Pharmaceuticals as an office secretary. She worked there for several years before marrying Robert S. Dean in 1947. They settled in Evansville and raised their family. Mae and Robert were avid dancers and loved Big Band music. They were members of Central Turners, Friday Night Dance Club and Evansville Coterie. They also loved to travel, having visited most regions of the United States and many countries in Europe, Central America and the Caribbean. They were members of Central United Methodist Church. Mae Blanche was a loving wife to her husband, devoted mother and grandmother, an excellent homemaker, and a gracious individual to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Coy; and in 1995, her husband, Robert. Mae is survived by her children, Sarah (Steve) Wunderlich and Kim Matthew Dean, both of Evansville; grandchildren, Adam Wunderlich of Nashville, TN and Lauren Wunderlich of Evansville; many cousins; and her niece, Sheila Burdette of Dallas, TX. Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Kevin Reed of Central United Methodist Church, with entombment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Evansville Protestant Home, as well as the care provided by Drs. Wood and Uloth. Also thanks to the staff on the Cardiac Unit, 5th floor of St. Mary’s Medical Center for all of the excellent attention that Mae received. Finally, thanks to Gentiva Hospice Care for their solicitude during Mae’s final hours.
