Retha Mae Thornberry

Retha Mae Thornberry (Cardin), 75, of Evansville, IN passed away surrounded by her family on June 18, 2020, at her home. She was born in Carbondale, Illinois on January 3, 1945 to the late William Henry and Mary “Opal” (Clark) Russell. Retha retired after working many years for Ozanam family shelter. She loved spending time with her family and hanging out with friends on the weekends. She had many friends who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers; William ‘Doc’, Van, and J.D. Russell, sisters; Mary Lou Russell and Ailene Brewer; stepson, Bill Cardin “Little Bill”. Retha is survived by her husband, James ‘Pete’ Goodwin; son, Danny Cardin (Melissa); daughters Penny Cardin and Belinda Cardin-Bergner (Keith); stepson, Terry Cardin; Grandchildren, Ashley (Jesse), Heather (Mike), Andy, Matt, Brandon, Amanda, Doug, Beth, Greg, Kiersten, Kendra (Andy), Kyle, Robbie and Krystal; and 7 great-grandchildren. The family would like to send their sincerest gratitude to the wonderful Deaconess Hospice nurses and home health aide for their care and support in the last weeks of Retha’s life.
