Obituary of Dr. William P. Detroy
Dr. William P. Detroy, 90, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013. He was born October 29, 1923, in Evansville, to the late William Peter, Sr. and Mae Irene (Peters) Detroy. He was a member and past president of the First District Dental Society and practiced dentistry for 44 years. In 1943 he was a member of the State Champion half mile relay team at Bosse High School. He attended Indiana University and was a member of the ACACIA fraternity and also received his dental degree from IU Dental School in 1951. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s East UCC. He was a 60 year member of Evansville Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. He and his wife, Betty, both made the Hole in One Club. He fulfilled one of his dreams when he golfed on the Masters Golf Course in Augusta, GA. Drafted in 1943, he worked in a hospital in France before he was discharged in 1946. During the war he traveled to Europe on the Queen Mary and returned home on an LST. He was a member of the Evansville Kennel Club, avid fisherman along with his wife, and was a pianist his entire life. William was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Sally (Tom) Kimpel of Newburgh, IN, Susan Detroy of Eugene, OR and Betty Anderson of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Jason (Sandy) Detroy Kimpel, Jennifer (Matt) Kimpel Hare, Jessica (Josh) Kimpel Miller and Tia Irene Anderson; great-grandchildren, Simone, Isla, Breckin, Kane, Tait, Maslyn and Thalen. Services were held11:00 AM Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Townsend, with burial and military rites in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends visited Friday from 2:00 to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
