Wilma Jean Orton

Wilma Jean Orton died Monday, August 13, 2018, following a brief illness at the Linda White Hospice Center in Evansville. Wilma Jean was born January 26, 1927, at her parent’s (William and Eleanora Korff) store in Armstrong, Indiana, in Northwestern Vanderburgh County.
She attended Reitz High School, and she later graduated from what was then called Indiana Teachers’ College, now known as Indiana State University, in Terre Haute. She met her future husband, Louie “Reiman” Orton at college. They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Darmstadt, Indiana, October 5, 1952. Wilma Jean taught school nearly 40 years in several cities around the country, including Evansville. The bulk of her teaching time was spent at Pike’s Peak Elementary School in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Wilma Jean was preceded in death by her husband “Reiman” (1998,) brother Charles Korff (1993,) Sister-in-law Ruth Korff (2009,) and great nephew Andrew Lawson (1982.)
She is survived by her brother Chester Korff and his wife Ethel of Darmstadt, seven nieces and nephews, 14 great nieces and nephews, and nine great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church in Evansville. Burial will be at Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute. Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com.
