Obituary of Irene S. Berry
Irene S. Berry, age 89, beloved wife of the late Fred C. (Clif) Berry, Jr., passed away July 9, 2022 at her home in Oak Hill, Virginia. Irene was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on April 17, 1933, daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Telischak) Semcho. She was predeceased by sisters Katherine Romano, Marie Palmer and Nancy Armstrong, along with step-siblings Stephen Semcho, Andrew Semcho, John Semcho, Michael Zanovitch and Anna Freeman. Irene is survived by son Thomas, an extended family of in-laws, along with many nieces and nephews. Following her graduation from Scranton Technical High School Class of 1951, Irene worked in the accounting department for AVCO Lycoming in Stratford, Connecticut. In 1954, she graduated from the Grace Downs Airline Career School in New York City, and went on to become a stewardess for Delta Airlines. From her marriage to Clif in 1958 flowed 62 years of everlasting love, delightful adventures and cherished family memories. It is with heartfelt joy their heavenly reunion is now complete. In addition to the joyous and endearing love that Irene shared as wife, mother and homemaker, she was always at the ready helping with her son’s school activities and contributing time and talent to youth sport events. Irene also enjoyed travelling with friends, boating, bowling, bridge club, antiquing, landscaping and hosting holiday gatherings. Irene’s good humor and cheer were hallmarks to all who knew her. Irene will be laid to eternal rest alongside Clif at Arlington National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend the graveside ceremony for inurnment of ashes on Friday, April 19, 2024. Attendees are requested to arrive at 10:15 am. The funeral will start at the ANC Administration Building. A security guard will be directing traffic into the Administration Building funeral parking facility. Inform the security guard that you are attending the Berry funeral. Please continue on Memorial Avenue as instructed by the guard, and into the parking area. Follow the signage to the Berry parking section. Arlington National Cemetery Friday, April 19, 2024 1 Memorial Ave, Fort Myer, Virginia Attendees are asked to arrive at 10:15 to allow time to clear security and make their way to the Administration Building parking lot. The funeral ceremony commences at 11:00. All attendees are invited to a luncheon immediately following the ceremony.
