Obituary of Joseph Raymond Milford

Joseph Raymond Milford, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; born December 8, 1928 in Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington, DC to Francis R. and Agnes (Montgomery) Milford. Joseph attended St. Aloysius for 1st grade, Nativity for 2nd through 4th grade, Holy Redeemer for grades 5th through 8th and St. Anthony’s High School, graduating in June 1946. After graduating from high school Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in July 1946, serving until January 1948. Joseph attended Strayer University majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting earning a Bachelor of Commercial Science (BCS) degree in 1950. This same year Joseph was called back in to service in 1950 during the Korean conflict. After serving his country proudly, Joseph joined the CIA in 1951 as Finance and Budget Officer until retirement in 1978, and completing 29 years of government services, including military service. Serving in the Philippines, England, Germany, Chile, Brazil and Thailand with short stints in Japan, Hong Kong, Taipei and Vietnam; receiving several letters of commendation and the Career Intelligence Medal. In September of 1959 Joseph married the love of his life Madeline Arslanian. Joseph and Madeline made their home in McLean, Virginia where Joseph has been a member of Westwood Country Club since 1977, a parishioner at St. John the Beloved for fifty years. In Joseph’s free time he volunteered for Share Transportation and Neighborhood Watch. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years Madeline Milford; his two loving children, John Milford of Trinity, FL and Cathy Cromley of Oakton, VA; four dearly loved grandchildren Nicole Milford, Michael Milford, Peyton Cromley and Dolan Cromley. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 23rd from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Murphy Funeral Home; 1102 W. Broad Street; Falls Church, VA. A celebration of life mass will be held Friday, January 24th at 12:30PM at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church; 6420 Linway Ter.; McLean, VA. A graveside service will follow at National Memorial Park; 7482 Lee Highway; Falls Church, VA.
