Obituary of Lawrence Paul Gasho

IN THE CARE OF

Murphy Funeral Homes

The Lord received one of His most humble and faithful servants when Lawrence “Larry” Paul Gasho passed unexpectedly at his home in McLean, Virginia on Tuesday, April 27 after a nearly 20-year battle with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy. While Larry’s disease reduced his mobility, it never sapped his strong wit, love of family, fellowship, and devotion to serving the Lord through supporting his home church the Falls Church Anglican. Larry was born on December 28th, 1942 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Gertrude and Jacob Gasho. He was one of four children and was recognized, even at an early age, as being the person in his family who had a way with numbers. While skills are evident early in life, character takes longer to mature. For those blessed to know Larry, they would describe him by his character – namely his generous heart and his unfailing desire to serve his family, friends, and community. One of the earliest examples of Larry combining his skills and character was when he would help his older Bill with his calculus homework when he came home from college on the weekends. Upon graduating from Fort Dodge High School, Larry went to the University of Iowa where he received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1964 and on to receive his CPA in 1966. Larry’s life changed forever in 1976 when he married his life partner Norby in Reno, Nevada. As friends and family would come to expect from Larry, his commitment to Norby never wavered, especially as she fought Carcinoid Cancer for more than thirty years and later faced additional health challenges from breast cancer to kidney disease. In addition to his consummate devotion to family, Larry was a consummate professional. He began his career for Speidel Newspapers in 1971 which merged with the Gannett in 1977. He rose from Assistant Treasurer & Assistant Secretary to Regional Controller to Vice President of Financial Analysis when he retired in 2006. Larry’s job brought his family from Reno, Nevada to Rochester, New York, and ultimately to McLean, VA in 1985. It was here, where Larry and his wife Norby developed a special relationship with their church community - the Falls Church Anglican. Larry served the church for many years as an usher, as a volunteer on the finance committee, and by providing home church services. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and watching sports – especially baseball. It didn’t really matter who was playing, if baseball was on TV you could be assured Larry was watching the game. Given his love of baseball, Larry cherished witnessing his two favorite teams win a World Series, the Cubs in 2016 and the Washington Nationals in 2019. Larry is survived by his loving daughter, Anne Norby Krohn and son-in-law, John Derek Krohn of Arlington, Virginia. He is survived by his brother, William of Northfield, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norby, brother Walter, sister Barbara Netz and his parents. Services will be held at The Falls Church Anglican on Monday, May 17th at 11am. The service can be viewed live at https://www.tfcanglican.org/.
