Chou Te, 92, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 16, 2019. Chou leaves behind her six children: Khun, John, Jill, Joanne, Harry, and Sophie; and her five grandchildren: Justin, Austin, Casey, Amanda, and Nicole.
Chou was born October 24, 1926, an only child, to a very independent single mother in Chi He, Cambodia. Chou’s mother sent her to Saigon, Vietnam in her early teens to study and later Phnom Penh after World War II. She was married in 1952 to Chun Meng Seav; and together they had 6 children.
Chou was a hard worker and smart businesswoman; she opened up a silk and silver craft store in Phnom Penh in 1968; while selling diamonds on the side. She became a widow in 1976. In 1983, she immigrated to Canada, first living in Calgary then Montreal before moving to the United States.
She was a hero to her children throughout her life, leading them through the toughest times of their lives. During the Khmer Rouge era, Chou struggled to keep her children alive through encouragement and love. She always wanted to be around her children because they were her purpose.
Chou was a very sincere Buddhist from a very young age; and a vegetarian for the last 20 years through her practice of Tao. Her practice of the Five Precepts gave her strength and shaped her kindness. She was well loved and respected by people who know her. She will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 24th, at National Funeral Home on 7482 Lee Highway in Falls Church. Guests who plan to attend are asked to arrive at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes you to donate to the charity of you choice.
Mother of mine (by Jimmy Osmond)
Mother of mine
You gave to me all of my life
To do as I please
I owe everything I have to you
Mother, sweet mother of mine
Mother of mine when
I was young
You showed me
The right way things
Should be done
Without your love,
Where would I be?
Mother, sweet mother of mine
Mother, you gave me
Happiness much more
Than words can say
I pray the Lord that
He may bless you
Every night and every day
Now I am grown
And I can walk straight
All on my own
I'd like to give you
What you gave to me
Mother, sweet mother of mine
