Charlotte C. (Voss) Cage

Charlotte C. (Voss) Cage, 88, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on July 10, 2018. Born on December 7, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Anna (Sahs) Voss. She was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, and the St Paul’s Ladies Aid. She graduated from Englewood H.S. and attended Woodrow Wilson (now Martin Luther King, Jr.) College (Chicago). While attending a Fourth of July outing (hosted by the Gamma Delta college group of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chicago) in the Indiana Dunes of Lake Michigan with a friend, she met Charles C. Cage, Jr., when she asked him to please pass the mustard, and he did. The two were wed at Charlotte’s home parish, Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church on Chicago's South Side, on December 29, 1954. Charlotte and Charles were longtime residents of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, where Charlotte served on Altar Guild, as Parish Librarian, as President of the Women’s Guild and as Chair of LWML at Trinity LCMS there. They later were members at St. Peter, Arlington Heights, and St. John’s, Schaumburg. She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Col. Steven (Sandra) Cage, of Spring Lake, North Carolina, Susan (David) Burgess, of Franklin, Wisconsin, Timothy Cage, of New York, New York and the Rev. Peter (Patricia) Cage, of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Kristen (Charles) Murphy, Daniel, Erin, and Lauren Burgess, Emily, Elizabeth, Michelle, Conor and Cameron Cage; great-grandson, Lyle Burgess; sister-in-law, Jean Voss. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles C. Cage Jr, in 2015; sister, Edith Iversen; and brother, Donald Voss. Funeral service will be 2pm, Monday, July 23, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1126 South Barr Street, Fort Wayne, with calling two hours prior. Burial will be in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne (The Charlotte C. Cage and Charles C. Cage, Jr. Student Aid Endowment Fund).
