Obituary of Donald L. Mettert
Donald L. Mettert, 87, of Fort Wayne passed away peacefully on January 16, 2021 with family by his side at Parkview Hospital Randallia, in Fort Wayne, IN. Don was born on May 15, 1933 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Alvey Kenneth and Mable Mettert. He graduated from Central High School. He was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War. Don married his sweetheart, Mona Watters, on September 18, 1953. They were married for over 65 years. They had two children, Ronda and Randy. Don worked as an industrial electrician for Phelps Dodge for 32.5 years. He also worked for Fort Wayne City Utilities. Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He loved his large extended family and made a point to attend every family event he could. One thing Don cherished most in life were the fishing trips to Minnesota he took with family and friends multiple times a year. He is survived by his children Ronda (Jim) Hostetler of Topeka and Randy (Michele) Mettert of Fort Wayne, grandchildren Lori (Kevin) Helfrich of Sweetser, Matt (Angel) Hostetler of Syracuse, Nick Mettert of Fort Wayne, and Kyle (Jade) Mettert of Fort Wayne, great-grandchildren Mason Dubois and Luke Dubois of Sweetser, Adrianna Troyer, Emily Troyer, and Maverick Hostetler of Syracuse, brother Tom (Lottie) Mettert of Osage, Minnesota, sisters-in-law Lois Turner of Fort Wayne, Carol Mettert of Churubusco, IN; and Martha Hadley of Fort Wayne, and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his wife Mona, who passed away in 2019, siblings Clairetta (Owen) Nuttle, Henry “Dude” (Mary Ada) Mettert, Robert “Booger” Mettert, Helen (Dale) Archbold, and Raymond Gene Mettert. Funeral service will be 1pm Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home 1140 Lake Ave Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior.
