Obituary of Rosalie Elvira Hamilton
Rosalie Elvira (Haiflich) Hamilton, 88, of Evansville and formerly of Fort Wayne, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital, Evansville. Born April 24, 1929 in Roanoke, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Herman Haiflich and Edith Maria (Wiser) Haiflich. Rosalie grew up on farms in Wells County. She attended Ossian High School and graduated from Auburn High School in 1947. After graduation, Rosalie moved to Fort Wayne where she worked for People’s Trust Bank and General Electric Employees Credit Union. While working at the bank, she met her future husband Richard Hamilton. They married in 1959 and enjoyed 40 years of married life together in Fort Wayne, Staten Island NY, and again in Fort Wayne for their retirement before Richard passed away in 1999. When their daughter Julia was born, Rosalie became a full time homemaker, staying involved in many volunteer groups throughout her lifetime including PTA, VNA, Red Cross, DAR, PEO and Girl Scouts. Rosalie spent countless hours tracing her genealogy and created meticulous records for her family. She and Richard enjoyed traveling and had fond memories of trips throughout North America, Europe, and China. They were avid card players and had many fun afternoons and evenings playing in card groups and with other couples. After Richard’s death, she began volunteering at the Anthis Center teaching English as a second language to adults from around the world. She loved the staff, the students, and the work, and often talked of her experiences learning about her students’ cultures. Rosalie also continued to travel. She went to Thailand on her own, on several trips with Julia, and on more trips with friends. She also cherished the days spent with her sister Doris until the time when Rosalie’s health began to change and she was no longer able to drive. In 2014 she moved to Holiday Village Assisted Living in Evansville to be closer to Julia. She loved her time at The Village. She made many new friends and enjoyed the variety of activities offered every day. If there was an activity going on, Rosalie was there with a smile on her face! Rosalie is survived by her daughter, Julia (Tim) Coulter; grandsons, Samuel (Julia) Coulter and Alexander Coulter; sister, Doris Kummer; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Robert Williams; and siblings, Norman Haiflich, Lucile Swaim, Dallas Haiflich, John Haiflich, and Jennie Krafft. Funeral Service will be 1:30pm on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior.
