David John Spellman

David John Spellman, 80, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 after a lengthy illness.
Originally from New York City, Dave joined the United States Marine Corps after high school and served as an Embassy Guard in Cairo, Egypt. It was there that he met his wife, Stephanie, who was working for the US State Dept. They were married 57 years.
After returning to the States, Dave worked as a chemical supply salesmen until retiring in 2000. He was very active in his community as president of several HOAs, a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a volunteer at Micah Ecumenical Ministries. He enjoyed sports, especially fishing, baseball and football, and was active in both his son’s and grandson’s sporting events.
Dave is survived by his wife, Stephanie; his daughter, Leslie Tignor (John); his son, David F. Spellman; his granddaughter, Rachel Hall (David); his grandsons, David J. Tignor, and Carey B. Tignor (Maria); his sister, Irene Goomishin; and his brother, William Spellman.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 2 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 3 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church followed by a light reception in the Parish Life Center. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery.
