Obituary of DeWayne Schaeffer

DeWayne Schaeffer, age 83 of Fremont, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana. DeWayne was born on December 29, 1934 in Angola, Indiana, the son of Arthur and Iona (Lower) Schaeffer. He married Myrna E. Rhinehart on December 12, 1964, she survives. DeWayne graduated from Fremont High School. He worked for many years at Shop Rite Grocery Store in Fremont, and served many years there as the manager. He later worked for Walmart in Angola in the meat department and retired after 10 years. He enjoyed farming some on the family farm, and enjoyed staying on the go, keeping busy, and liked going for rides around the area, he lived his entire life in Steuben County. Survivors include his wife, Myrna Schaeffer of Fremont, Indiana, two children, Dale Schaeffer of LaGrange, Indiana, and Teresa (Rusty) Conley of Wolcottville, Indiana, grandchildren, Tia Charles of Fremont, Indiana, Bobbi Hagaman of Texas, William Conley of Kendallville, Indiana, Elizabeth Starnes of Texas, Will Schroeder of Fremont, Indiana, Arizona Schaeffer, Starr Conley, Robert Schaeffer, Amber Degraff, Jimmy Covington, and Brandi Huff, all of LaGrange, Indiana, many great-grandchildren, a brother, Keith (Marlene) Schaeffer of Fremont, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Rodella Conley, and a grand-daughter, Raquel Lea Charles, and a sister Donna Jean Brown. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Monday, August 20, 2018 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana, with Rev. Rodger Moyer officiating. Burial will follow the services at Fremont Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Schaeffer are requested to the American Heart Association.
