Evelyn Gick

Evelyn L. Gick, 88, of Greencastle, died at Asbury Towers Retirement Community on Friday, March 15, 2013 with family present.
She was born on Oct. 16, 1924 in Loranger, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, the fifth of 10 children of Robert S. and Florence (Mount) Church.
She graduated from New Winchester High School in 1944.
Raised in Hendricks County, she called Greencastle and Putnam County home for more than 65 years; for 39 of those years she called 412 S. Jackson St. home. It was here that she and her husband raised their family in a quintessential, middle-America neighborhood. Retiring from DePauw University's housekeeping staff in 1994 after over a decade, she had previously worked at G. C. Murphy, Angwell Curtain Factory and Delta Zeta Sorority among other locations in the course of her working career.
She was a lifetime member of the Women's Auxilary of the VFW and a member St. Paul's Catholic Church's Ladies Guild.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 43 years, Lawrence, in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and six sisters.
She is survived by one sister, Martha Nichols and her husband Jerry, and one brother, "Jim" Church and his wife Jane. Her son, Phillip and his wife, Georgenna, and her daughter, Charlene Leisure and her husband "Steve", six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle with Father William Ehald officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Following internment, the St. Paul's Catholic Church Ladies Guild will host family and friends at the church annex.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 19.
