Obituary of Jesse Stephen Covert
Jesse Stephen Covert, 72, of Greencastle passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Franciscan Health Indianapolis. Jesse was born in Greencastle on January 16, 1947, the son of Jesse Oliver and Mary Mildred (Williams) Covert, and was a graduate of Greencastle High School. He also had two years of schooling with IBM in Computer Processing and Data. Mr. Covert served proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of New Hope Fellowship, he was also a lifetime member of the VFW. Jesse worked for 33 years as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office, and was a custodian at Greencastle High School for 8 years. Survivors include three children, Jay Stephen Covert, (wife-Cinnamon), Christopher Allen Covert, (wife-Shirley), and Tricia Dawn Covert; two sisters, Patty Strong, and Mary Dawn Fenwick; and four grandchildren, Miranda, Sydnie, Tyler, and Simon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 48 years, Betty Jo Covert; a brother, Terry Lee Covert; an uncle, Dave Williams and his brother-in-law, Ralph Fenwick. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019, at New Hope Fellowship, 2450 N US Hwy 231, Greencastle, with Pastor Donnie Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Friday. The Greencastle VFW Post 1550 and Greencastle American Legion Post 58 will provide Military Honors at the cemetery.
