Norma L. Gaston

Norma Lucille (Poynter) Gaston returned to the Lord on Wednesday, February 24 at The Waters in Greencastle, Indiana. Norma was 92 years old.

Norma was born on June 21, 1928 in Greencastle, Indiana, the daughter of Archie Poynter and Alice Petrey Poynter. After graduating from Stilesville High School in 1946, she married Guy Prentice Gaston on November 26 of that same year. She and Guy, who preceded her in death in 2012, lived in Putnam County their entire lives.

For much of her life, Norma was a homemaker on the family farm and retired as the guidance secretary at South Putnam Jr-Sr High School in 1995.

Norma was a devout Christian and a fiercely loyal wife and mother with a great sense of humor. She loved to garden, go fishing, had a tremendous work ethic and was an amazing cook. Her family meals on the farm, and later in her Putnamville home with Guy, were legendary. In addition, many couples celebrated their wedding days with cakes baked and decorated by Norma Gaston. For much of Norma’s life, she was a dedicated member of New Providence Baptist Church, and in recent years was a member of Greencastle Christian Church.

Survivors include daughters Debra Goodson and husband James of Somerset, Ky., Diana Callahan and husband Michael of Cloverdale and Dawn Puckett and husband Kieth of Greencastle; six grandchildren, Taylor L. Goodson and wife Harmony, Kelly Stanfield and husband Robert, Joshua Callahan and wife Lina, Jessica Woolery and husband William, Anthony Puckett and wife Sarah, and Andrew Cory Puckett and wife Megan.

Norma and Guy had 18 great-grandchildren, Hope Goodson, Domenico Goodson, Elijah Callahan, Emma Callahan, Emilio Gallegos, Ezekiel Callahan, Emmett Callahan, Esther Callahan, Ethan Callahan, Leviticus Arthur, Chase Woolery, Coraline Woolery, Guy Woolery, Brody Puckett, Tahlia Puckett, Cooper Puckett, Kiptyn Puckett and Lorelei Puckett.

Survivors also include a sister Bonnie Wisehart of Stilesville, and brothers Albert Poynter of Danville and Leon Poynter of Greenwood.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Cecil Poynter and Luther Poynter, and sisters Sylvia Finchum and NancyWadsworth.

The family wants to express its gratitude to the staff at The Waters, for the professionalism and the care they extended Norma for the final nine years of her life. Their compassion was amazing. Funeral services for family will be conducted graveside at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 1st at New Providence Cemetery with Rev. Mark Miller officiating.
