IN THE CARE OF
Hopkins - Rector Funeral Home
.Virigina R. GilstrapTweedy Durr stepped into the loving arms of Jesus on May 15, 2014. On December 19, 1930, God blessed the world with the birth of Virginia Ruth Gilstrap. She was born to Stanley R. and Dorothy Marie Gilstrap in Lawrence County Indiana. Her childhood was blessed with ten siblings. Her mother passed away when she was four years old. At 13, she lived on her own.
It was on Mother’s Day, 1947, that she knelt at an altar in the Bedford Nazarene Church and gave her heart to Christ. All her life was defined by her journey toward heaven, her devotion to God and her love of His Word.
On November 23, 1950, she married Orville Dean Tweedy. To this union five children were born: Ronald Dean (Jamie) Tweedy, Leah Ruth (E.B.) Meek, Daniel Gene (Karen) Tweedy, David Ray Tweedy, and Rachel Ann (Danny) Storm. With a refined, polite, and elegant spirit she served her Lord as a pastor’s wife in Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Indiana, Iowa, and Louisiana. She also served as District Secretary of the Bible Missionary Church North Central District while living there.
On November 3, 1984, Orville went to be with the Lord. On December 6, 1985, she married Rev. Robert L. Durr, Sr. They made their home in Louisiana. She gained nine step-children whom she embraced as her own. Robert passed away in Henderson, Texas, on July 21, 2010.
She was preceded in death by both parents, both husbands, one son, Ronald Dean Tweedy, one grandson, Ronald Dean Tweedy, Jr., and one brother, Robert Gilstrap. Now, heaven is blessed and has more appeal than ever it did while she was with us. We’ll see you soon, Mom.
Two funeral services will be held: Greenville, TX on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Greenville Bible Missionary Church, and Greencastle, IN on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 11:00am and service at 1:00pm at both locations. Burial will be in Greencastle, IN at Forest Hill Cemetery.
