Margratha S. Turlington

March 6, 1932August 5, 2018

Margratha "Mickey" Turlington passed in peace Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the young age of 86 after a short battle with cancer. Mickey was a native of Wilmington, North Carolina but resided in Hampton for more than 70 years. She loved doing yard work and prided herself for having the prettiest yard in her neighborhood. Her next favorite thing to do was to be a greeter at her church, First Church Ministries in Newport News. As owner/operator of Tidemill Private School she was lovingly known as "Miss Mickey" by the numerous children she taught.

Mickey was preceded in death by her loving husband Tommy. Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Patty, Tommy, Dee and Scott, along with nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service will held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 9, 2018 in the funeral home chapel. After the interment, the family and friends will gather at First Church Ministries for refreshments.

Donations may be made to First Church Ministries, 410 Flannery O'Conner Street, Newport News, Virginia 23606 or Sentara Hospice of Chesapeake.

Friends are encouraged to visit to share memories and words of condolence with the family.

I just can not tell you how sorry I am that you have lost your mother. I know from my own experience a little of what you are feeling. I remember when Mrs. Turlington used to pick me and Karen up to drop us off at school. And that one time Karen didn’t shut the van door good and when your mama made a turn Karen went flyin’ out!!! LOL. Not funny at the time, but it was later!!!!! All I can say is lean on the Lord. It is the only way to get through!

Much love,
Jan Evers Thomas

Dee, I am so sorry for your loss. Of course, I first met your Mom through you and she became a good Avon customer and a friend. I always enjoyed sitting and talking with her when I delivered her Avon or on the phone, I see where you got your friendliness and gift of gab--that's why we are two sisters with different Mothers--haha. Your Mom and I had the love of gardening in common too, I always loved her flowers and yard. And, of course, she was the best dressed woman I think I've ever known, she loved to match everything she was wearing, especially her earrings, another thing we had in common. I will miss talking to your Mom and am praying God comforts you with all the good memories you have in your heart.
