Michael Edward Smith, Sr.

Michael E. Smith, Sr., 61, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at his home. He was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and was a lifelong resident of Newport News. He was a salvage yard counterman and had served as manager of Keener Auto Parts, Ross Auto Parts, and English Motors. He retired in January of 2011 after 40 years. Michael was preceded in rest by his parents, Alfred E. Smith and Alma A. Smith. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Tammy Price Smith; son, Michael E. Smith, Jr. of Newport News; daughter, Monica K. Smith of Hampton; three grandchildren, Zachary Vick, Hailey Vick, and Tyler Beatty; great-granddaughter, Alina Battle of Hampton; and brother, Alfred E. Smith. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 21, at the graveside at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
