Obituary of Robert A. Kudlinski
Robert “Rob” Albert Kudlinski, 59, of Hampton, VA, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on July 27, 2021. He was born to Elfriede Kudlinski Seidel and the late Robert Andrew Kudlinski (USAF, Ret) on February 14, 1962 in Clinton, Oklahoma. After Rob graduated from York High School as valedictorian, he joined NASA as a student intern in 1980 while also earning his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Once he graduated, Rob landed his dream job a NASA Langley, where he invested his career as a head of the Flight Software and Graphics Branch, Acting Division Chief of the Information Systems and Services Division, and as the Project Manager for the Synthetic Vision Systems Enabling Technologies. In addition to his Langley position, Rob served on numerous national and NASA committees on software engineering and policy. His last position was Deputy Project Manager for the LaRC Subsonic Rotary Wing Project before he eventually settled into retirement after 31 years of dedication. Rob was an incredibly intelligent man and that was not just limited to his career. In his spare time, he tinkered with computers and their software while also making a substantial income from the stock market. He never kept that income to himself though as he was always generous and friendly and willing to give more than he had. Rob was predeceased by his father, Robert Kudlinski and his step-father, Rolf Seidel; and in Germany by his grandparents, Albert and Sophie Fischer; and his uncle and aunt, Albert and Rosemarie Fischer. Rob is survived by his two children, Robert C. Kudlinski and Tiffany Kudlinski. Rob was very proud of his children and loved them dearly. He is also survived by his mother, Elfriede Kudlinski Seidel; his sister, Karen Kudlinski, and her son, Nikolas Kaniewski; step-sister, Rosie McCullough (Gary) and daughter, Julie; and step-brother, Mike Seidel, as well as his German cousins: Rosi Schwertl and her sons, Maximilian and Sebastian; Karin Fischer (Albin); and Albert Fischer (Maria) and children, Laura and Lukas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that photos, stories, favorite memories…be uploaded to Rob’s guest book at Parklawn-Wood Funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held on February 14, 2022 at 3pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, VA 23666. Interment will be immediately following at Parklawn Memorial Park; 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA 23666.
