Barbara Bland Landis

Barbara Bland Landis, 78, of Harrisonburg passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Sentara-RMH Medical Center. She was born on February 24, 1940 in Riverton, WV, and was the daughter of the late Richard Bland, Shirley Lambert Sponaugle and step-father, Omer Sponaugle. Barbara graduated from North River High School and Bridgewater College with a Bachelors of Arts Degree. She taught English and coached debate in Augusta County Schools. Barbara also spent time owning and operating a bridal and formal wear business and later enjoyed being a sales associate at Belk. She enjoyed reading, music and homemaking. On June 4, 1961, she married James F. Landis, who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Kimberly Landis-Hamner and husband, Kevin, of McGaheysville; a brother, Omer Jeffrey Sponaugle and partner John Lineberger, of Luray; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 pm, Friday, September 21, 2018 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the funeral home, with Rev. Laura Lockey officiating. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
