Bonnie Fay (Heyne) Barkema

Bonnie Fay Barkema, 87, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at her home. She was born on December 15, 1931 in St. Ignatius, MT and was the daughter of the late Fred R. and Mary LaVaughn Howell Heyne. She was one of four children and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Bonnie lived her early life in Montana, Oregon and then moved to Virginia. She was employed with Shoe Show and Fashion Bug before retiring. She enjoyed playing solitaire and spending time with her grandchildren. Her husband, Tim F. Barkema preceded her in death on July 27, 1996. She is survived by her children, Donna Barkema-Kearnes of Harrisonburg, Keith Barkema of Front Royal, Carol Goode of Gainesville, and Tanya Barkema of Reston; grandchildren, Christopher Kearnes of Wake Forest, NC, Amy Kearnes of Pooler, GA, Michael Kearnes of Kansas City, MO, Stephen Kearnes of Michigan, William Randall Goode and Katherine Marie Goode both of Northern Virginia, and Matthew Duke of Reston, VA; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Bailey Kearnes of Wake Forest, NC, Alaina “Lainey” and Alyssa “Lacie” Kearnes both of Kansas City, MO. Honoring her wishes, she will be cremated and a graveside service will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, November 22, 2019 at Culpeper National Cemetery.
