Robert F. Olson, 94, of Crown Point, IN passed away on May 14, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Elsie, children Kathe (Mike) Grumich of Louisville, KY; Daniel (Mary) Olson of Merrillville, IN; Pamela (Robert) Hoshaw of Pine River, MN; Lois (Dennis) Wilson of The Villages, FL; Robert Martin of Portage, IN; Ronald (Bonnie) Martin, Portage, IN;sister, Sue DeGan of Merrillville, IN. Also numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by former wife, Winifred A. Olson, a sister June Eris Olson; a son Mark Thomas Olson, and parents Francis A. Olson and Mae C. Olson Flagler. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ. He was a retired cabinet and millwork carpenter from Gary Community Schools, holding a lifetime membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He served as a Sergeant in the 69th Infantry Division; 272Regiment in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, and European Theatre Medal with two battle stars. His platoon linked up with the Russian Army at the Elbe River in Torgau, Germany. In his later years he authored a published book, The Barren Syndrome.
Visitation will be held at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN on Sunday, May 19 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 20, 2013 with C. A. Kuiper officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN.
