Bonnie S. Ostrow

Bonnie S. Ostrow, 80 of Huntington passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at The Heritage of Huntington. Bonnie was a 1958 graduate of Huntington High School and was a 1959 graduate of Carnegie College (Medical Lab Technology). She had served on Huntington City Common Council District 4 from 1976-1979, she was the first woman to be elected to city council. She served as Huntington County Auditor from 1980-1987, she was the first woman to be elected to serve as County Auditor. She had worked as a supervisor for Kelly Temporary Services from 1988-1990. Bonnie was a member of College Park United Brethren Church where she served as Executive Secretary from 1990-2005. Bonnie received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award from Governor Otis R. Bowen for exceptional service to the citizens of Huntington. She was a former longtime member of ABWA Huntington Chapter.

Bonnie was born on October 8, 1940 in Alma, Michigan, the daughter of the late Lloyd G. and Vera M. (Schoeff) Caley.

Survivors include five sons: Dennis (Jamie) Ostrow of Memphis, TN, Ronald (Mary) Ostrow of Akron, OH, Michael (Kristina) Ostrow of Nashville, TN, James (Lisa) Ostrow of Virginia Beach, VA, Chris (Missy) Ostrow of Marion, IN; a daughter: Melissa (Bob Frontz) Pokrzywinski of Huntington; 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Darl Caley and Duwayne Caley.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.

Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington.

Memorial donations can be made out to College Park United Brethren Church in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

I will always remember Bonnie, she was always fun loving and we had many good conversations over the years! She had a lot of spunk and determination. We missed her when she couldn't come to the Salon anymore. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
