Dorothy A. “Dottie” Bostel, 85 of Huntington passed away at 11:06 AM on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital. She was a 1944 graduate of Dallas Township High School and was a 1948 graduate of Huntington College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She took graduate courses at Ball State Teachers College. For 40 years, Dottie served as an elementary school teacher for Huntington County Community School Corporation (Central Elementary and Horace Mann Elementary on William Street) and also at St. Peter’s Lutheran School from where she retired in 1988. She served one term on the Huntington Community Schools Board of Trustees. Dottie was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s First Community Church where she provided leadership for many women’s groups and was a long time Sunday School teacher. Dottie was proud of her ministry as well as a summer church camp counselor at Barbee Christian Camp. As part of her life-long commitment to Christ and her Church, Dottie served on the staff at St. Peter’s First Community Church as the Christian Education leader for 9 years. Well known for her amazing pies -- Dottie was a beloved mentor and confidant to many individuals. She was born on August 4, 1926 in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of F.M. and Mary Ellen (Barber) Luker. She was united in marriage to Heinz F. Bostel on February 14, 1950 in Huntington. Her husband survives. Additional survivors include a daughter: Betsy (Brian) Royer of Huntington; two sons: Bill (Ann) Bostel of Huntington; John (Carla) Bostel of Huntington; four grandsons: Christopher Royer, Ian Bostel, Elliot Bostel and Evan Bostel. She was preceded in death by a grandson: Nicholas Bostel and three brothers: George Luker, Larry Luker and Murph Luker. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the St. Peter’s First Community Church, 206 Etna Ave., Huntington with Pastor Richard Strick officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held following the service at the St. Peter’s First Community Church Fellowship Hall.
