Jack P. Barlow, Sr., 70 of Huntington passed away Friday afternoon, February 10, 2012 at The Heritage of Huntington. Jack was a 1959 graduate of Bentley High School in Livonia, Michigan. He was a 1964 graduate of William Tyndle College, he received his Master of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan College, and he furthered his studies at Michigan State University and Ball State University. He received an honorary doctorate degree from Huntington University in 2005. He was a Professor of History at Huntington University full time for 32 years and 4 years part-time, retiring in 1999. He was selected as one of the 100 Most Influential People of Huntington University. He was a life member of the Cosmopolitan Club, he was a member and former board member of the Conference on Faith and History, board of directors of the Quayle Center, former board member of the Huntington County Library, former board member of the Association of Innovation and Higher Education, member of the Government and Legal Issue Committee of the Coalition of Christian Colleges and chairman of the Huntington County Bi-Centennial Committee. He was also a congregational minister in Michigan. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was born on November 23, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan, a son of William Henry and Lena Mae (Harlow) Barlow. He was united in marriage to Rebecca J. Bedwell on January 19, 1962 in Livonia, Michigan. His wife survives. Additional survivors include a son: Jack P. (Samantha) Barlow, Jr. of Huntington; a daughter: Kimberly J. (James) Wood of Huntington; a sister: Virginia L. (Russ) Tappan of Mio, Michigan; two grandchildren: Ashley Barlow and Joshua Wood. He was preceded in death by a brother: William C. Barlow. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN. Services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Huntington University Merillat Center for Arts auditorium, 2303 College Ave., Huntington, IN. Entombment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington. Memorials are to the Barlow Endowment Fund through Huntington University in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
