Obituary of Phillip A. Ellet

Phillip A. Ellet, 69 of Markle ran into the arms of Jesus on Friday morning, October 16, 2020 at his residence. Phil had worked for INDOT for 41 years retiring in 2014. Most recently he worked as an Engineering Consultant for DLZ Corporation. Phil was a 1969 graduate of Norwell High school and a 1973 graduate of Tri-State College where he earned his Bachelors in Civil Engineering. He was a member of the Union Church where he was a former Elder, taught Sunday school, was actively involved in their missions program, and was currently Chairman of the Building Committee. He volunteered for Helping Hands in Bluffton as well as at the Drake Goetz Memorial Park. Phil enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with the grandkids. He also enjoyed traveling and “Z”-ing. Phil recently shared his love for the Lord and his spiritual journey during a service at Union Church. He was united in marriage to Linda Lou Bear on June 10, 1972 at the Union Church. His wife survives. Additional survivors include: three daughters: Jenny (Nick) Oden of Markle, Sarah (Nathan) Spitzley of Jackson, MI and Rachel (Matt) Stutzman; a brother: Dennis Ellet of Zanesville; two sisters: Charolett (Larry) Gehring of Craigville and Becky (Jim) Beal of Huntington; Grandchildren: Alix Oden, Livy Oden, Grace Oden, Flavi Stutzman, Hannah Spitzley, Levi Spitzley, Isaac Spitzley, Zeke Stutzman and Kate Stutzman and his Mother Betty Ellet of Markle. He was preceded in death by his father. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Union Church, 3688 E. 400 N., Huntington, Indiana. We will be following the CDC’s guidelines for Social Distancing and Social Gathering Limits. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Union Church with Pastor Rick Hines and David Swain officiating. Interment will take place at the Union cemetery in rural Huntington. Memorial donations can be made out to Helping Hands or the Union Church Building Fund, both sent in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St. Huntington, IN 46750
