Carmen Elirene Benjamin

Carmen Elirene Benjamin, a long-time resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, a former resident of Queens, New York and a Haitian native, was granted her angel wings on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. Her final days were spent with her family members worshiping in song and prayer at her bedside. Carmen was born on August 28, 1931 to the late Suzane Louis and Joseph Benjamin of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Carmen survived 91 years of life on this earth. Those that were touched by her understood her quality of existence and may feel that she was gone too soon. Carmen is survived by her loving children, Michael (wife Shelly), Daniel, and Emmanuel (wife Ashley) along with many adored nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren: Michael Jr., Vanessa, Arnelle, Daniel Jr, Ethan, Leah, and Ezabelle. She was preceded in death by her son Anthony, daughter Rosa and brothers, Danord and Jacques During her earlier years, while living in Haiti, Carmen discovered her passion for the fashion industry. She began her career designing and hand crafting the most beautiful, lavish hats. Carmen migrated to the United States in 1988 where she set about a new life and later acquired citizenship. In her later years, Carmen served her time as a caregiver, loving and caring for the children of many families. Carmen was strong in her faith, giving honor and praise in everything she did. She enjoyed listening to endless gospel songs on her radio, and reading her Bible. Worshipping with friends she enjoyed doing regularly. Carmen was quite the crossword puzzle expert, and tuning in for television game shows was one of her favorite things to do. Her most favorite sport to watch on TV was Tennis, especially when Serena Williams was playing. She was a phenomenal woman in so many aspects. Everyone that knew Carmen, felt her big heart and giving nature. She will be deeply missed by us all. A visitation for Carmen will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Family Funeral Care-Rockville West, 5791 Rockville Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana 46224, followed by a celebration of life service at 1:00 PM.
