Obituary of Dather Crider Wood
Dather Margaret Crider Wood was born July 24, 1932 to the late Chester and Myrtle Crider in McKenzie, Tennessee. Chester and Myrtle’s union produced three daughters and a son. Carolyn is the sole surviving sibling. Lena Mae and Oadie Lee have gone to be with our Lord and Savior. Dather was baptized at the AME Methodist Church in McKenzie, TN. In September of 1959 she moved to Indianapolis, IN and became a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She served at Shiloh for many years before joining Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, and more recently, Light of the World Christian Church. She graduated from Webb High School in McKenzie, TN and continued her education at Tennessee State University for two years. She also attended IUPUI for two years and one year at Ivy Tech Community College. Dather retired from the Indiana State Personnel Division in 2000. She then worked as a substitute teacher for the Indianapolis Public Schools for two years before she retired due to health reasons. On Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 8:20 p.m., Dather Crider Wood was called home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. During her service at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Dather met the love of her life, Roger James Wood. That union produced their daughter Renee (Wood) Fitzpatrick. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Fitzpatrick and son, John E. Crider, Sr. and wife Deborah Crider. Dather is also survived by three grandchildren: granddaughter, Raychel C. Fitzpatrick, grandsons John E. Crider, Jr and Corey Crider. She is also survived by her sister Carolyn Gordon, nieces and nephews including Eric Gordon, Sr. and wife Denise Gordon, Tajuani Beaty, Ashley, Eric Gordon Jr., Evan and Eron Gordon, Charlotte Jones, Stan Jones and Juan Lee Jones, Aunt Martha Parks of Cleveland, OH, Janet Chambers, Shirley Crider (wife of the late Oadie Crider) and a host of other cousins, friends and loved ones.
