Obituary of Eugene Reaves
God in all His infinite being, planted Eugene Reaves on May 17, 1936 into the lives of Cleavland and Gladis Reaves. Eugene attended schools at Denmark grade school and Denmark High School. Eugene worked alongside of his father as sharecropper in various parts of West Tennessee. On April 17, 1955, Eugene celebrated the rights of matrimony to Arlene Hicks, who preceded him in death on September 8, 2018 after 63 years if marriage. To this union three children were conceived Patricia Ann, Calvin Eugene and Alexander who also preceded him in death on December 4, 2007. Eugene moved north in 1956 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to provide a better life for his family. Eugene labored in Steel Mills in New Jersey until he decided to attend the school of Baking Arts. There he mastered the art of pastry culinary and enjoyed baking wedding cakes and cinnamon rolls throughout the community. Eugene was hired and served as a Baker for Kroger Company for 30 years and retired. Eugene professed his Christian walk at an early age and became active within the structure of ministry. Eugene served under the leadership of Rev. N. Vincent (Northside New Era) for many years as a Deacon, known to some in the church community as “Deac”. He went on to serve under Pastor Charles Harris (Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church) and now present Pastor Nello Holman also as a Deacon until his health began to fail him. Eugene served as a Chaplain for the Southern Cross Lodge No. 39. In whatever capacity, Eugene served his calling and his passion was intercessory prayer. He had a favored connection to God through prayer. Eugene is preceded in death by his sister (Lula) Burnetta Witherspoon. Eugene Reaves leaves to cherish his memory and life contribution daughter Patricia (Darrell) Watson, son Rev. Calvin Eugene Reaves Sr., sister Eula (John) Hill, brother Robert (Rob) Reaves, five grandchildren; Darrell Watson, Daniell Watson, Calvin E. Reaves Jr., William D.
