Obituary of J.W. Cunningham
J.W. Cunningham Jr. was born on January 24th, 1944 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Jesse W. Cunningham (1915-1990) and Helen (Thomas) Cunningham (1919-1970). He has 14 siblings, graduated from Merrill High School, and went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Oakland City University. J.W. served proudly in the U.S. Army for 30 years, retiring as Command Sergeant Major. He then retired again as an analyst for the Department of Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) after 20 years of civilian service. J.W. married his wife Pamela, on August 3rd, 1985. He is survived by his 5 children and their spouses – Mia (m. Rod Naseth), Gary, Ebony (m. Tyronza Snowden II), Constance (m. Ralph Reed), and Helen. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren – Sofia, Natasha, Madeline, Juliana, Tyronza III (Tripp), and Titan. His favorite past time was history and gardening. He enjoyed football, researching his ancestral roots, and also took pride in his yardwork. Additionally, he enjoyed writing, as his first publication is called Cunningham’s Poems and Epigrams (1994). J.W. was a dedicated man of God. He served on the deacon board for St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. The most admired person in J.W.’s life has always been his father. He was his father’s namesake and he respected and highly cherished his humble roots. He will forever be beloved by family and friends touching many lives. Funeral service, Tuesday June 8, 2021, 12pm at Williams & Bluitt Funeral Home. Family will receive friends 10am- until time of service. Private Interment at Marion National Cemetery.
