Obituary of Lillian E. McDuffy
Lillian McDuffy was born, January 24, 1953 to the late Annie M. Curry Cure and Joseph Burrell in Atmore, Alabama. She was the second of two children born to this union. Lillian attended grade school at Freemanville Elementary, Freemanville, Alabama and Escambia County Training Elementary in Atmore, Alabama. She graduated with honors, May 18, 1970, from Escambia County Training High School and was Valedictorian of her class. After high school, Lillian moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she met and married her husband of 49 years, Joseph McDuffy. To this union on child was born, a daughter, Crystal McDuffy Williams. Lillian's first job after high school was with Beverage Paper Company, which is where she met her husband, Joe. After leaving Beverage Paper Company, she worked for Grain Dealers Insurance, Fireman Funds and Capital Group-American Funds, where she retired after 19 years of service. During the early years of her life, Lillian professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized and joined Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Nokomis, Alabama, where she grew up. During the last month of her life she joined Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Indianapolis, Indiana. Lil loved her family-ALL of her family-Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and In-Laws. Her home was filled with love and everyone was welcomed. Family traditions were her favorite, especially the holidays. The annual picnics in the park and the huge family gatherings in her home at Thanksgiving and Christmas were special times for her. Everybody looked forward to her homemade carrot cakes. She was always there for her family with her quiet strength. She loved us and we loved her. Lillian departed this life, Monday, March 23, 2020 at the age of 67. Shel leaves to cherish precious memories; her husband, Joseph McDuffy, daughter, Crystal McDuffy Williams; grandchildren, Jordyn Scruggs and Tyler McDuffy; sister, Geraldine Burrell, nephew, Lord Dirac; sister-in-laws, Doris Gatewood, Dorothy Crosby (Ronald), Diane McDuffy, Pattie Crosby (Nassau), brother-in-law, Columbus McDuffy and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and other special relatives and friends.
