Obituary of Rickey L. Manning Sr.
Rickey Lee Manning, Sr., son of Willie and Zephra Rankin Manning, was born June 15, 1963 in Indianapolis, Indiana, one of five children. He accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church. Rickey (aka "Slick Rick") was the father of five children. 1n 2005, he married Cheryl Lee whom he met when he was 18 at the bowling alley. He and Cheryl became grandparents of six granddaughters. Rickey attended Arsenal Technical High School. After high school, he worked several jobs before he started his career at Pillow Express Logistics, where he remained for 30 years. Although his job title was Field Supervisor, he was known as "the main man" because he performed many tasks, whether they were in his job description or not, and was held in high regard. From time to time, he was known for putting himself "on suspension". After he felt he'd been off long enough, he would go back to work. Rickey loved cars, clothes, hats and tennis shoes. It wasn't beyond him to go on a trip with a suitcase full of nothing but shoes. Most importantly, he LOVED to drive (which he had been doing since he was 10 years old... ask his younger sister Francene, his riding buddy, about that). That love of driving was the reason he was always ready to take a road trip, which he did often. An avid bowler since the age of 14, he has bowled at every bowling alley in the city of Indianapolis and never stopped. In his bowling career, he bowled at least 2 "300's" and several "299's"... and he has the rings to prove it. His bowling career took him across the country to bowl in many tournaments. Rickey passed away at home on November 15, 2020 surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by his father, Willie, he is survived by his mother, Zephra, his wife, Cheryl, five children, Rickey Jr (Aja), Christopher, Timothy, Clarence and Emily; his siblings, LaNita (Geoffrey) Jones, Andrea Jean Manning -Dudley, Derek Glenn Manning and Francene (Barry) Johnson; 5 granddaughters, uncle Walter “Sonny (Meme) Manning from Fort Washington, MD, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as too many friends to name or count. Rickey will truly be missed by all of us who loved him.
