Obituary of Dennis Johnson
Dennis Johnson, age 72, passed away on October 14, 2018 in Kokomo. Dennis was born on July 28, 1946 in Kokomo to the late Robert and Mary (Coughlin) Johnson. Shortly after graduating high school, Dennis enlisted in the United States Army and served active duty for two years. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves and served for over 30 years before being discharged as a Master Sergeant in April 2005. Dennis also worked at Delco Electronics in Kokomo and retired from there in the mid-1990’s. On June 26, 2013, Dennis was married to Barbara Fye-Johnson, and she survives. Dennis belonged to the VFW Post 3885 and EMA of Kokomo, and was very active with both organizations. He loved researching and learning military history, particularly from World War II. He also had a deep interest in amateur radio and space exploration. In addition to his wife, Barbara Fye-Johnson, Dennis is survived by his son, Tony (Heather Letizia) Johnson; daughters, Melissa (Joseph) Johnson-Yates, and Jennifer (Jason) Garrison; step-daughters, Christy (Kris) Rice, and Misty (William) Brown; sister, Rosalee Smith; ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brothers, Benjamin Johnson, and Johnny Johnson; and sisters, Donna Glendenning, Elizabeth Ann Johnson Ward, and Marilyn Bobbett Johnson Forker. There will be a visitation for Dennis held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Friday, October 19th from 12:30 to 2:00, followed by a memorial service and concluding with military rites at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Dennis’ name may be made to EMA of Howard County or the VFW.
