Obituary of James Edward Williams
James E. Williams, 95, passed away at 9:18am on Thursday, September 6, 2018. He was born July 12, 1923 in Lafayette to Clarence and Irene (Hoffman) Williams. On February 12, 1944 he married his high school sweetheart, Dolores (Goans) Williams at the First Christian Church in Lafayette. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary February 2015. Dolores preceded him in death on September 18, 2015. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1941 and attended Purdue University. Jim had been employed at Alcoa for over 10 years, Globe American for two years and retired from the Comptroller department at Chrysler Corporation in 1979 after 23 years. Jim and Dolores then retired to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Jim was a member of First Christian Church in Kokomo, was a Deacon for many years and negotiated the purchase of the property where the church was built. They attended the Community Church in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea in Florida after his retirement. Jim was a life member of the Elks Lodge #143, Eagles Aerie #347, Purdue Toastmasters Club, Kokomo Management Club and was quite active in his earlier years as a Boy Scout and leader. He also served on the Kokomo City Council in the mid 1960’s. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a brother, Ray Williams of West Lafayette. He is survived by two sons James E. (Jeanie) Williams Jr. and Gary D. (Diane) Williams, West Lafayette, brother Robert E. Williams, Hobe Sound Fl., two grandsons Steven Tucker (Pam), Scott Williams (Kelly), and several great grandchildren. There will be a private graveside service for the family at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery in Kokomo. Please in lieu of flowers, in Jim’s honor, contribute to the First Christian Church in Kokomo.
