Obituary of Jeffrey L. Spall
Jeffrey Lee Spall, 76, passed away on May 31st, 2019 at his home with family by his side. Jeff was born in Kokomo to Juanita (McCreary) Spall and Donald Spall on December 13th, 1942. Jeff married Vickie (Goudy) Spall on September 25th, 1965 in Kokomo, and she survives him. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1960 where he played varsity football for the Wildkats during the 1959 and 1960 season. After graduating, Jeff went on to serve our country in the United States Army that fall. Jeff spent three years in the Army including a year over seas in Germany and France. Jeff was honorably discharged from the Army in October 1963. He became a member of the American Legion Post 6 and a lifetime member of the VFW. Jeff returned to Kokomo and went on to work at Delco Electronics. After 5 years, he would eventually leave Delco to 1968 to join his father-in-law at Goudy Brothers Boiler Company where he would spend over 50 years working. In 1976, he took over the day to day operations and served as the Vice President until his semi-retirement in 2010. Jeff was known as "Mr. Spall" or "Big Jeff" to the many boys and young men he coached in youth sports leagues in Kokomo. Jeff started as a volunteer umpire at Northside Little League in the early 1970's. In 1976, he took over as manager of Martinos at Northside where he spent the next six years. In 1977, Mr. Spall joined the Pal tackle football coaching staff of the Tribune Packers team where he spent five seasons. In 1981, Jeff became President of the Kokomo Parents Babe Ruth League and was very instrumental in securing the financing and installation of the lights at Huston Park baseball diamond. Mr. Spall and his company Goudy Brothers Boiler Company have sponsored several teams in various sports over the years. Mr. Spall was an avid supporter of the Haworth Booster Club, Kokomo Wildkats, Post 6 baseball, Pal football, Western Panthers, Russiaville Post 412 baseball, and several softball teams. Jeff also enjoyed volunteering at the Kokomo Relays as the scorer/timer. Jeff enjoyed going to his grandkids' events and spending time at his Florida beach home. He took many trips to Las Vegas to play Blackjack. Jeff enjoyed visits to the horse track in Anderson with his friends from "Ducky's Think Tank." The last few years, he enjoyed his morning rummy games with Earl, Terry, Mike, Legs, Kenny, Rosey, Royce, Ray, and many more. He had a reserved table at Martinos during lunchtime along with good friends Tom, Monty, Wes, Wart, and others. Jeff is survived by his spouse, Vicky and his two sons Donald Spall and his wife Krista (Rapp) Spall and Jeffery Spall and his wife Hollie (Riggle) Spall; three grandchildren Garrett Spall, Shelby (Spall) Shiflet and her husband Mitchell, and Chase Spall; and two great-granddaughters Avalinn and Elianna Shiflet; and several nieces and nephews. Jeff is preceded in passing by his parents; sister Jill (Spall) Wilkinson, and nephew Paul Wilkinson. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 4th, at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. Burial services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the American Legion Post 6 Baseball team.
