Obituary of John W. Rickey
John W. Rickey, age 82, passed away on June 15, 2018 in Kokomo. John was born on November 7, 1935 in Huntington, West Virginia to the late Elmer and Almira (Brosius) Rickey. After completing high school in North Dakota, John attended Purdue University for a year and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served as a weapons maintenance technician, and retired after 20 years as a Master Sergeant. On June 10, 1962, John married Mondellia Yvette Flick in Dolton, Illinois. Mona preceded John in death on July 25, 2010. John loved going to the library and reading mystery novels. He was also passionate about genealogy and enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, as well as playing chess. He was also a member of the Air Force Association. John is survived by his son, Jon Rickey; daughter-in-law, Jamie Rickey; grandson, Jack Rickey; sister-in-law, Tammy Chester; nephews, Tim McElfresh, Will Bolton, Christopher Gregory, and Keegan Chester; nieces, Mandy Grimes and Kasey Hallam; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. There will be a visitation for John held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 20th from 5-7. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 21st at 10:00 am.
