Norman Lee Mendenhall

Norman Lee Mendenhall, 90, of Kokomo passed away at 10:55 AM Thursday June 7, 2018 at Primrose Retirement Community, Kokomo. He was born November 30, 1927 in Kokomo to Walter A. Mendenhall and Ina Catherine (Cheever) Mendenhall. He grew up on a farm east of Miami, Indiana and was a 1945 graduate of Clay Township High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII, having served on the USS Missouri. On December 9, 1949 at Southside Christian Church in Kokomo he married Joyce Ann Hosier. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2007. He was employed in the freight business for 20 years , retiring in 1968. He was later a car salesman for H.E. McGonigal and Button Motors for 20 years, retiring in 1992. Norman was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church where he was a coach of the church league basketball teams, a youth sponsor, usher for a number of years, and was on various committees including Staff-Parish Relations.
Survivors include two sons N. Dale (Catherine) Mendenhall of Yorktown, Indiana and Curtis A. (Debbie) Mendenhall of Tipton; one daughter Kathryn L. Beach of Whiteland, Indiana. There are also seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, his parents; one sister Wanita Smith, and two brothers Walter H. Mendenhall and Warren L. Mendenhall.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday June 12, 2018 at Main Street United Methodist Church, 830 South Main Street, Kokomo. Pastor Duane Carlisle will officiate. Burial with military rites by the U.S. Navy and the Kokomo Military Rites Team will follow at Sunset Memory Garden. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Main Street United Methodist Church.
