Tonita Rae Koon

After a long illness, the Lord called Tonita home on April 20, 2019. She was born March 27, 1937 to the late John and Wilma (Wiles) Pyle. She married Chester Koon II on April 2, 1954. Chester passed away on August 31, 2008 after 54 years of marriage. Tonita was a member of the In His Image church. She was also a member, for many years, at the Courtland Friends church and had attended the First General Baptist church in the past. She served on several committees and belonged to the U.S.F.W. missionary circle. At one time, she had served as it’s president. When she was younger, Tonita enjoyed working in bible school with the children. She also baby sat for several kids in her community. In the nineties, she worked in the cafeteria for Kokomo Schools. While there, she was involved with reading to children in the Head Start program. Tonita is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws: Mark and Lisa Koon, Kokomo, IN; Chester III and Lori Koon New London, IN; plus two daughters and son-in-laws: Karen and David Parsons, Slater, S.C.; and Kyler and Brenda Thomas, Plainfield, IN. Tonita and Chet leave behind two grand children: Christy Smith and Emily Koon, eight great grand children and four great great grand children. She also has a surviving brother and a sister-in-law: Jerry and Doris Pyle, Kokomo, IN plus one sister: Annetta Dishner, Kokomo, IN. She was preceded in death by a brother – John Pyle and her devoted Aunt, Vera Wiles. For those who knew Tonita, she was both an inspiration spiritually and physically. She had battled various illnesses during her life, two of which she was only given a slim chance to live, but she went on to live several more years. Even through all she endured during her life, she kept her faith until the end. A visitation for Tonita will be held at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel Tuesday April 23, 2019 from 11am to 1pm. A Celebration of her life will immediately follow at 1pm with Pastor Brad Swain officiating. Burial will take place at Crown Point Cemetery.
