Obituary of Waid F. Hornbuckle Sr.
Waid F. Hornbuckle, Sr., 90, Kokomo, passed away on Tuesday, July 01, 2014, at North Woods Village. He was born December 9, 1923, in Caraway, Arkansas, to Earnest Marvin and Alma Sue (Swett) Hornbuckle. On June 20, 1942, he married Norma Beatrice Perry, and she survives. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 during WWII and was stationed Europe. While serving, he earned an EAMETO Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Indian Arrowhead, and Sharpshooter Medal. He lived in Mississippi until 1950 when he came to Kokomo. He worked at Snugl Wheel Weight for fifteen years and retired from Continental Steel after fifteen years of service there. In addition to his wife, Norma Beatrice Hornbuckle, he is survived by his children, Waid (Betty) Hornbuckle Jr., Jenette Gust, Patricia Butcher, Michael (Kim) Hornbuckle, and Lisa Ford; grandchildren, Wayne, Shane, Michael, and Brian Hornbuckle, Bobby and Lewanda Young, Angie and Jeff Harrell, Amanda, Monica, Marcelo, Brandi, and Nathan Nava, Jason and Shana Ford, and Jeb and Robin Ford; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mildred Nava; grandchildren, Tina Rouse and Daniel Hornbuckle; brothers, Earnest, Carl, and David Hornbuckle; and sisters, Louise O’Neal and Flossie Willard. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery.
