Obituary of Carlos Allan Hunter
C. Allan Hunter, 90, of Rustburg passed away Sunday October 25, 2020 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Helen Sprinkle Hunter who preceded him in death in 2018. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Born December 24, 1929 in Silva, NC, he was the son to the late Hiram Gresham Hunter and Ada Edwards Hunter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Hunter and Romulus (Red) Hunter, and one sister, Janet Speas. Allan was retired from Virginia Tech Agricultural Extension Service. Allan helped farmers for 31 years. He started out as an extension agent in Lunenburg County in the 1950s. He spent about seven years in Louisa County before coming to Campbell in 1968. He was the unit director and county agent for Campbell County for 16 years. Allan received an Associate Degree from Mars Hill College in General Studies, a Baccalaureate degree in Agricultural Education and Animal Science from Virginia Tech, two master’s degrees: one from NC State University in adult education and economics, and one from Lynchburg College in Sociology. Allan and Helen were active members of the community. They were volunteers at Lynchburg General Hospital. They were the leaders of their church senior group and organized many functions and outings. Allan was the Secretary Treasurer of the Virginia Cattleman’s association. Allan was a member of Timberlake Baptist Church. He loved his Lord, his family and his church family. He served as a deacon, choir member and Sunday school teacher. He was an active Gideon. His Gideon service included furthering the gospel by giving Bibles to area school children. He dedicated his life to raising his family with a Godly heritage. He was faithful to love and care for his family, his children, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren throughout his life. Allan was in the Korean War. He was a decorated combat veteran. He is the recipient of three combat medals: Purple Heart, a Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and a Korean Service Metal with 3 Bronze Stars. Allan is survived by a son, Roger Hunter Sr. and wife Patricia, two daughters, Linda Duncan and husband Mike, and Doris Hunter; four grandchildren, Amy Horsley and husband David, Roger Hunter Jr. and wife Cindy, Clint Hunter and wife Maurine, and Michael Duncan and wife Ellie; six great grandchildren, Logan Hunter, Ada Hunter, Kaitlyn Hunter, Fern Hunter, Hannah Hunter, and April Duncan. A funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday October 30, 2020 preceded by a family visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Timberlake Baptist Church with the Pastor Brian Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Any memorial contributions can be made to the Gideon’s International.
