Shelby Jean Parker

Shelby Jean Parker, formerly Shelby J. Ivey, age 82, of Lynchburg, Va., and formerly of Erwin, N.C., went home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. In death, Shelby was reunited with the love of her life, her late husband retired Air Force Sergeant Mahlon R. Parker Jr. Shelby was a proud military wife, deeply in love with and devoted to her husband. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Frances and Michael Herbert; granddaughter, Sharee Tipton and her husband, Merrill; grandsons, C.J. and Jayden; her brothers, Gerald, Joe, and Thurston Hart; and loving special friends, Jesse and Elaine Johnson. Shelby served at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., for 30 years as a switchboard operator. She was known to all for her quick wit and wonderful personality. The family wish to extend heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff of The Summit health and rehab and especially her team in the gardens for the excellent care Shelby received during the last years of her life. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Seaboard Cemetery in Seaboard, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children at www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org. Whitten Timberlake Chapel is assisting the family (239-0331).
