Susan Womer Almond

Susan Marjorie Womer Almond, 85, of Lynchburg, died Monday, August 16, 2010, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was married to the late Charles Thomas Almond, Jr. in 1949.
Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Wayne Wakefield Womer and the late Helen Tracy Womer.
Susan graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in 1947. She began her teaching career in Richmond and finished her career at Heritage High School in Lynchburg. An active member of Centenary United Methodist Church she enjoyed teaching in the Sunday School. She loved her family and friends and especially enjoyed playing bridge.
She is survived by her son, Charles Thomas Almond, III of Atlanta, GA and her beloved daughter, Susan Wakefield Almond, of Lynchburg, and two grandsons, Charles Thomas Almond, IV, and his wife, Connie, of Santa Monica, CA and Christopher Wakefield Almond of Boulder CO.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Reverend C. Douglas Pillow, officiating. Entombment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
