Obituary of Beverly Clay Eggleston
Beverly Clay Eggleston, 88, of Amherst, passed away on May 6, 2021, after a decades long battle with heart disease. Beverly was born on May 2, 1933, to Henry Clay and Virgie Adams Eggleston in Lynchburg, VA. After graduating from Madison Heights High School in 1951, he joined the US Air Force where he served as a radio operator in Japan and North Dakota. After his discharge, he landed his first job as a telephone installer for Bell System and other telephone companies for the next 34 years. In 1956, he met Nancy Ferguson and they wed in 1956, going on to have 4 children, Kacey Eggleston (Stephanie), Brenda Smith, Tim Eggleston (Becky), and Wendy Sale (Ed). Bev was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his children and Nancy and always tried his best to support them. Anyone who knew Bev knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Bev was proceed in death by his parents and Nancy. He is survived by his beloved sister Bettie Gail Jackson, his 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great -great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family wants to make a heartfelt thank you to daughter-in-law Stephanie for the loving care she gave Bev the last several weeks of his life. A special thank you to Jake and Kleo Garland for allowing Bev to stay in a place he loved to call home the last few years of his life. The family requests that in lieu of flowers to make a donation to Chapter 16 of Mended Hearts. There will be a celebration of life on May 11, 2021 at 2pm at Clifford Baptist Church where Bev proudly worshiped the lord the last several years of his life. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Mike Fitzgerald and the Rev. Clyde Mawyer. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
