Obituary of Myra Martin Mays
Myra Martin Mays Myra Martin Mays, 90, of Amherst County, passed away, Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Fairmont Crossing. She was the wife of the late William Landon "Bill" Mays. Born January 4, 1920 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest N. and Nancy Jane Staton Martin and was also preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Lee Martin; one sister, Dorothy Pearl Smith; one great-grandson, Tony Lee Driskill and one granddaughter, Karen Kay Mays. Mrs. Mays is survived by three children, William Hiter Mays and wife, Becky of Amherst and Ernest Donald Mays and wife, Hesper of Madison Heights, and Nancy Mays Driskill Mottley and husband, Earl of Concord; five grandchildren, William Dale Mays and wife, Diane, Joyce Mays Boggs and husband, Tim, all of Amherst, Timothy Wayne Mays and wife, Sharon of Monroe, Kenneth Neal Driskill and wife, Lisa of Concord, and William G. Mottley and wife, Polly of Farmville and nine great-grandchildren, William Derek Mays and wife, Crystal, Christy Mays Bartholomew and husband, Nick, all of Monroe, Thomas Landon Boggs of Amherst, Jennifer Dawn Boggs of Evington, Travis Gordon Driskill and wife, Elise of Concord, Timothy James Mays of Amherst, Hannah Louise Mays of Monroe, Heather Kathleen Ferguson and Zackary Jacob Ferguson, both of Concord. She also leaves to cherish her memory, three great-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Isabella Boggs, William Landon Mays, and Hunter Mason Driskill; two sisters, Ruby Staton and husband, Lannie of Buena Vista and Carrie Martin of Lynchburg; one brother, Ernest S. Martin of Amherst and many loved nieces, nephews, and friends. Mrs. Mays was dedicated to her church, where she served so faithfully as Communion Steward, Member of United Methodist Women, Vacation Bible School, Prayer Breakfast, and wherever needed. She retire from the Amherst County School System with thirteen years of service in the school cafeteria, doing what she loved to do - cook. She had a love for flowers and was a loyal and dedicated member of the Pleasant Vistas Garden Club, where she was awarded a lifetime membership. She will be greatly missed by all. She was a devoted wife and a loving and caring mother and grandmother. No one or nothing came before her family and her Lord. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2010 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 650 Thrashers Creek Road, Amherst, VA, with the Rev. Judy Morris and the Rev. Jack Schooler officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A special thanks to her devoted and caring family Doctor, David M.
