Obituary of Norborne "Nj" James Thomas
Norborne “NJ” James Thomas, age 85 of Madison Heights, husband of Barbara L. Thomas, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018. He was born on December 4, 1932 in Amherst County, son of the late Gerald James Thomas and Mildred Carpenter Thomas. NJ Was a member of Northminster Evangelical Presbyterian Church and attended Union Christian Church. He graduated from Madison Heights High School, Lynchburg College, and Phillips Business College after which he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 16 and Elks Lodge 321. He had retired from Craddock Terry Shoe Corporation after 25 years of service. Following his retirement he began a second career teaching business at Amherst County High School which he continued for another 12 years. NJ loved playing golf, fishing, bird hunting, reading, and was a very proud fan of the New York Yankees. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald R. Thomas. In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by two nephews, Randy Thomas and wife Cindy and Jay Thomas and wife Pam; one niece, Jan Campbell and husband Jerry; a sister in law, Peggy B. Thomas as well as four step children. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm at Meade Cemetery with Rev. Jim Freeman officiating. Memorials may be made to the Monelison Volunteer Rescue Squad, 120 Amer Circle, Madison Heights, VA 24572.
